Can you smell it? Crisps remind me of walking up the ramp at good old Lomond View Elementary on my way to lunch and smelling the apple crisp baking. They'd serve it in a little dish with a perfect little dallop of whipped cream on top. It was one of my favorite desserts in grade school. Sunday I made Berry Peach Crisp. It was tasty. It was pretty too. It brought back memories, and dang it smelled good. The best thing about a crisp is ... ...continue reading
Blackberries and Peaches
Love this combination. Maybe it's the striking difference in colors, but I love making things with blackberries and peaches this time of year. My blackberry patch is prolific. It's making up for the lack of raspberries I guess, but it's been fabulous. I love picking blackberries too. They're big and fat, no thorns, and just easy. Some of my berries have been as big as my whole thumb. Yum!! So it's been Coconut Pound Cake with Berries and ... ...continue reading
Carb-ing Up For LOTOJA
It was tasty! What is LOTOJA did you ask? It is a bike race the second week of Sept. that is from LOgan TO JAckson Hole WY. Get it? That's how the famous bike race got it's name. 206 miles to be exact, and a lot of elevation gain. Still to this day I cry every time we drive over Geneva Summit up Montpelier Canyon. It was hard----really hard, and I cried at the top. I cried at the top of Salt River Pass too. It is a hard ride, but a lot of ... ...continue reading
Gra-No-La Baby!
I love, love, love this granola. I don't think there is anything quite as lovely as a bowl of good yogurt, some fresh blackberries or raspberries, and a generous amount of homemade granola. There isn't! Nothing beats it for brecky (that's breakfast in Australian) or mid day snack, or late night snack. Yum!! I stole this recipe 10 years ago at a Great Harvest convention. We were in the wilds of Montana, sleeping on itsy-bitsy cots, and housed ... ...continue reading
Another Peach Raper
The Peach RaperThere is another Peach Raper on the loose. It is true! (Please refer to last year post on the first Peach Raper. You'll see that peaches are important to me, and I need my peaches and cream!) It happened again this year and my children will now go peachless for the next 12 months since I'm too cheap to pay $40 a bushel for peaches. OK-I lied. I stopped at the fruit stand Tues. and bought a half bushel of the most beautiful ... ...continue reading
The Banana Bread Quest Is Over
Ruth's Best Banana Bread On The Planet! I did it! I think I found the best banana bread recipe on the planet. I had it all along, I just didn't know it. If you remember from a few posts ago I love banana bread and I just hadn't found the right recipe yet. I was looking for something like the one we make at Great Harvest, but I was looking for love in all the wrong places. I thought it might be in fancy recipes with packets of pudding added, ... ...continue reading
What To Do With All The Green Beans?
So do you just have a ton of green beans? Do you feel like they are coming out of your ears? I even planted about 1/4 of the beans I usually do, and I am basking in a sea of beans. If you aren't making my favorite meal on the planet, this is a close second when it comes to beans. If you just happen to have a few new potatoes in the garden too, they will come in quite handy. I watched little miss Giada (AKA Titty Lou) make this a few years ... ...continue reading
Rachel’s Cookies and Cream Popcorn
This is another recipe for the annual Cousin Party. Now technically Rachel isn't a cousin since she married into the fam, but we'll keep her. She keeps TJ in line. She made a really easy recipe, but it impressed all of us. It doesn't look so easy, but really it is. Make it at your next gathering---people will love your guts, and sing your praises!Rachel's Cookies and Cream PopcornA bunch of popcorn popped (Old maid free if you can)1 pkg ... ...continue reading
My Cousin’s Are Amazing Cooks
Every Aug. my granny has a little gathering of grandchildren at her pool for the annual Cousin Party. Doesn't every kid in the world love their cousins to death? I was telling someone the other day that I have taken my kids on some pretty fantastic trips, but their favorite trips always seem to involve cousins! There are always 2 big cousin trips each summer and they always involve camping, dirt, bears, Uncle Dave's Hola song, and lots of late ... ...continue reading
Summer’s Favorites
I am in heaven. I love it when my garden finally starts producing, and I can reap what I have sown. I have told my four suntanned kids that my name is the Little Red Hen and I really shouldn't be sharing a licking stitch with them. They did nothing!! But I love them. They're really cute--thanks to James! Anyways I haven't been cooking anything out of the ordinary, just my favorite summer foods and I thought I'd re-introduce them since they ... ...continue reading
