To All My Garner Cousin’s!!

rp_IMG_0074.JPG

Our dear sweet 82 yr. old granny!  To all my favorite Garner cousins here's a heads up.  It's our annual "Cousins" party at Grandma's pool Monday night, Aug. 9th and I want to see you!  I haven't seen some of you for way to long, and the only excuse for not coming is if you live in Oklahoma or Texas, and I only know of one of you who lives in OK.  (I do believe your mother is a flight attendant though Jordan, and you could probably get to SLC ... ...continue reading

Elementary Treats

rp_congo.jpg

This is another treat I have been trying to recreate for a long time.  Again those lunch ladies at good old Lomond View Elementary have had me on the lookout for a recipe resembling one of their lunch room treats.  They were dang good cooks those little lunch ladies.  I still remember "Taco Friday" and the homemade cinnamon twists we would get with the taco.  My mother even loved Taco Friday.  Those ladies made everything from scratch.  You could ... ...continue reading

Summer Treats

rp_seth.jpg

I love my kids too!I know my mom loved me.  Oh she still does, but want to know how I knew that?  She made me these fabulous treats all the time.  Sometimes there is nothing better than a graham cracker frosted with chocolate frosting.  There was one summer many moons ago that my little sis, a few cousins, and a few neighbor friends all tried our hand at the migrant worker job.  We were cherry pickers.  It was a long summer of real early morning ... ...continue reading

Holy Strawboly!

rp_strawberries.jpg

Yes, that handsome man of mine helps in the garden every once in awhile.  Thanks Jimmy!Holy cow!! I have had strawberries coming out of my ears for the past few weeks.  My garden is such a miracle!  Every time I'm out there I am amazed at what has grown.  It seems crazy to me that these little dried seeds actually grow into something we can eat, and that I actually did it.  Truth be told I don't really have a green thumb.  My thumb is just short ... ...continue reading

Hollie’s House!

rp_pancake.jpg

I remember as a kid that one of our favorite places to go was Twin Falls.  "Why?" may you ask did we love Twin Falls so much?  It was where the cousins lived.  The cousins that we didn't see very often and when we did, it was the biggest treat.  That's how Hollie's House is to my kids now.  We had the best time visiting.  Granted it was a fast and furious trip for some of us but well worth it.  I think J said it best.  "I won't miss this trip ... ...continue reading

Emma’ Favorite Summer Pasta Salad

rp_IMG_6578.jpg

This little girl of mine has been begging me for days to make this salad.  We call it Grandma Garner's Pasta Salad since that's where the recipe came from, but for blogging purposes it is now officially called "Emma's Pasta Loveliness".  This pasta salad has made numerous appearances at the cabin in Bear Naked Lake.  Actually it's a summertime staple there.  With warm slices of Asiago Sourdough to go with it, it's the perfect meal.  By putting ... ...continue reading

My Obsession With Banana Bread

rp_IMG_7159.jpg

I love banana bread!  I LOVE IT!!  But my concern here is that I haven't found the perfect recipe.  Actually I have.  There's two.   I just can't replicate them.  In my opinion James makes the best Banana Bread found on the planet at the bakery.    Have you tasted it?  It is to die for, and every Tues. I cut a warm slice off the bread board and top it with a little butter and I'm in heaven.  It is one of those "Great Harvest Moments".  When you ... ...continue reading

Adults Only (Are You Kidding Me!)

rp_IMG_6586.jpg

Tis the season of the family reunion.   I hate to admit it though..........I missed my family's reunion last Sat. due to an extraordinary lack of sleep from 4 days of girls camp.  I think my mom is still speaking to me.  She knows what it's like to be at girls camp.  38 perfect girls, 11 wonderful leaders, way to many snakes, way to much "Purple Stew" singing, tons of really yummy food, a bathroom that was too far away for frequent visits, a ... ...continue reading

What’s The Best Meal You’ve Ever Had?

rp_IMG_6582.jpg

That's the question I received not too long ago while I was teaching a little class one day.   I opened the class up for questions and I usually get the "What's your bread recipe?" question.  I answer that I could tell them, but I would swiftly have to cut their heads off.  Top Secret you know:)  But instead I got this question posed to me.  The funny thing about it is, I didn't hesitate for 2 seconds.   I know what the best meal I've ever eaten ... ...continue reading

18 Baby Bok Choy and Counting

A few months ago a neighbor of mine got me addicted to a lovely little Sat. ritual.  Every Sat. morning at the crotch of dawn, one of us (OK actually it is usually one of our wonderful husbands) head down to the local elementary and pick up our Bountiful Basket.  They are wonderful!!  For $15 you get a laundry basket sized box of fresh fruits and veggies.  Whatever is in season is what you get and there is always a surprise in store.  My family ... ...continue reading
