Chocolate Babka

It really was as good as it looked.  I don't think I've ever made a bread quite like this.  There's a ton of butter in the dough.  I mean, I've made some doughs enriched with butter and eggs, but nothing like this.  And you know what?  It was a beautiful dough.  Super tender and delicious.  We loved it!   I was hoping to make a bread pudding with the second loaf, but it never made it that far.  We ate it.  Slice by slice with lots of yummy sounds ... ...continue reading

Chocolate Cheesecake

We have birthday traditions at our house that may not be your typical ones.  You know my mom started it years ago.  She probably thought, "Hey it's your birthday, have it your way!" and that's how it all started.  Birthday's don't necessarily mean cake.  I think I had a Raspberry Trifle as my birthday cake of choice for most of my life.  My mom still to this day usually finds a day to fix MY favorite meal for me around my birthday.  And if you're ... ...continue reading

Thanksgiving!!!  My FAVORITE holiday all year long!  I do admit to having my Christmas tree up, and all the trimmings and decorations that are associated with Christmas, but for me it just adds to the Thanksgiving spirit.  It brings in more light to my home.  It creates a buzz in all the kids.  An excitement that you can feel.  And for me it feels good to have the Christmas and Thanksgiving Season all start with being Thankful.  Tons of great ... ...continue reading

razzleberry

Razzleberry Pie. Need I say more? I post this recipe every year around Thanksgiving because it is such a winner!! It's just the best pie, and it makes 5 at a time. Now you may not think that you need to make 5 pies and that it is overkill, but I promise you will be so glad you did. They sit in your freezer and anytime you need a quick dessert, it's there for you. A neighbor has a baby, you've got dessert made. Someone you love is sick- you bake ... ...continue reading

Black Bean Soup

Black Bean Soup

Ever since I was little soup has been my favorite food.  In first grade I remember cutting pictures out of my mom's Good Housekeeping magazine, that I used in a collage to represent ME for my class.  The biggest picture of the bunch was a big red can of Campbell's Soup.  I put it right in the middle of the collage.  That's what I liked to eat.  My mom always had a supply of Bean with Bacon, and Split Pea, but Campbell's Chicken Gumbo was my ... ...continue reading

Perfect Coconut Pound Cake

Coconut Pound Cake

This is one of my favorite recipes of all time!  And it's one of those recipes that is so simple, yet so perfect for so many different occasions.  It was almost 15 years ago one of my favorite sister in law's (Remember, I have  9 favorite sister in laws!) brought this cake over after I had just delivered baby #3.  There's nothing really fancy about it, and it looks a little plain to tell you the truth, but my oh my is is delicious.  I remember ... ...continue reading

Pumpkin Pancakes

pancakes

I am that mother.  I am the one, who thinks about what I'm going to make for dinner all day, yet when it comes right down to actually making it, I struggle!  Nothing sounds good, everyone is heading different places all night long,  nobody will give me a suggestion on what to make, yet they're the first to grumble.  Does any of this sound familiar?  So we had pancakes last night for dinner:)  And they were good, and everyone seemed pleased, and ... ...continue reading

My Perfect Chocolate Chip Cookie

foodgawkercookie

I will not declare this recipe to be the best.  It's not the ultimate, or the most gourmet, but in my opinion it is perfect:)  Actually PERFECTION! SO here's my requirements for a great Chocolate Chip Cookie. I love the taste of an all butter cookie, but I have a hard time finding one that doesn't spread like a cow pie.  This one doesn't.  Nice.   I like them kind of chewy.  Not cake-y, but chewy.  I LOVE dark chocolate in them.  And not ... ...continue reading

Deep Dish Pizza

Last week as I was flipping through my Instagram feed I came across the most beautiful picture of a pizza.  I follow Bon Appetit Magazine, and I love seeing what they're cooking up in some fabulous kitchen in New York:)  They had just posted a picture of the Oct. cover of their magazine, and this Granny Pizza was the featured recipe.  Well I didn't even wait for my copy of the magazine to come.  I looked it up and made it the next day.  It was ... ...continue reading

I'm back!!  I'm so sorry it took so long.  I updated my blog, changed websites, summer came and went, tons of summer vacationing, school started, and you know the list.  It goes on and on and on.  When really all it is, is a bunch of excuses!  I got lazy!  I got disheartened, and I stopped sharing.  I stopped writing, and my sister finally whipped me into shape last night and I will post my favorite recipes for YOU!  I promise:)  Just so you ... ...continue reading
