I love Sat. mornings in May (or June, Sept. and even Jan.) I have a little tradition called The Long Run. There is no sleeping in. A 6:30 am start and we (my running buddies and I) own the world. No one else is usually even stirring, and we have the road to ourselves. Except this Sat. we shared it with about 40 cows that wanted to run with us:) Cows are fine behind a fence, but when they're keeping pace with you just to your left, it's a ... ...continue reading
Creme Brulee Love
Emma's little Beehive class has been doing something very fun over the last few months. One Tues. night activity a month is devoted solely to recipes. Each girl in the class brings the prepared dish that she loves and also the recipe to share with everyone. They have a giant tasting night and swap recipes to put in their recipe card holders they made. Emma is accumulating quite a collection of recipes. So far they have done appetizers, and ... ...continue reading
Happy Mother’s Day to My Muther
I don't think my mom likes Mother's Day because she always seems to be out of town on that day. I could be wrong, but wouldn't you take it as a sign that she doesn't like the day? Actually it is their Anniversary this week and they're enjoying Hawaii. Lucky ducks. So since I can't sing "Mother I love You, Mother I doooo!" in sacrament meeting for her today, this post is a tribute to her, and to show her what she's missing out on treat wise:) ... ...continue reading
This One’s For Marc
Today's popcorn recipe is a tribute to Marc and Susan and their little family. Two years ago they adopted a little girl named Gem from Vietnam. I do believe that she is one of Emma's favorite people. Well this evening we are headed down to Salt Lake International Airport to greet the newest member of our family. Marc and Susan left a little over 2 weeks ago to pick up their new son from Vietnam. He is a healthy 24 lb. 21 month old little ... ...continue reading
Bittersweet Lessons of Life
There are no recipes today, just my thoughts after a very bittersweet day with Emma. It reminded me of the scene in Sense and Sensability where Elinor Dashwood is talking to Colonel Brandon about her sister MaryAnn and how MaryAnn would be much better off as soon as she learned "the ways of the world". Colonel Brandon's response to her was this. "She is purely unspoiled, and the longer she goes without, learning the ways of the world, as you ... ...continue reading
Cinnamon Popcorn
So a post a day is rather ambitious. Especially with a weekend thrown in. Oh well! The second fabulous popcorn recipe I'm sharing is one of my favorites. I know I say that all the time, but this truly is. Every year during the second week of July James' mom's side of the family has a camping vacation to Emigration Campgroup up by Bear Naked Lake. It is tradition, and as many cousins as can make it come up for at least one day. This recipe ... ...continue reading
I Looked Out the Window and What Did I see…….
"One piece of popcorn popping on my apricot tree. " I know that spring has sprung for many of you friends and family out there but it is just starting here in Paradise!! Yeah!! The grass is a brilliant green, the daffodils and tulips (or three lips as we sometimes call them in the Clawson family) are blooming, and the geese are back from their long winter away. The other day James and the kids were getting the gardens ready for planting and I ... ...continue reading
Daring Baker Cheesecake
The April 2009 challenge is hosted by Jenny from Jenny Bakes. She has chosen Abbey's Infamous Cheesecake as the challenge. If you can't tell from the photo, this cheesecake was not my best creation ever. I decided to make it a strawberry cheesecake since Ridley's has had strawberries on sale and I had a ton of them. To the batter I add 1 c. of pureed strawberries and mixed it in. It was the prettiest shade of pink as it went into the oven but ... ...continue reading
Love On Wheels
Well today I am actually supposed to be posting my latest Daring Baker Challenge, but I just don't want to yet. It was cheesecake and it is sitting in my fridge waiting to be gussied up and photographed and I just am not in the mood. Tomorrow maybe. But I am in the mood for a lovely Mexican inspired salad. It truly is love on wheels.I am really making up for my lack of Mexican food this last week. I think James hates it when I get in these ... ...continue reading
A Shocking Lack of Mexican Food
So sorry it's been a few days since I blogged. J and I have been at a Great Harvest convention in fantastically sunny Tucson AZ. Did you know that Tucson is only about 50-60 miles away from the Mexican border. I was certain that I was going to be eating Huevos Rancheros for breakfast everyday, chips and guac at the pool every afternoon, and fajitas, or tacos at every dinner. But to my sadness we were not. I kept waiting to be served some ... ...continue reading
