Carb-ing Up For LOTOJA

September 17, 2010 By: Lisacomment

It was tasty! What is LOTOJA did you ask?  It is a bike race the second week of Sept. that is from LOgan TO JAckson Hole WY.  Get it?  That's how the famous bike race got it's name.  206 miles to be exact, and a lot of elevation gain.  Still to this day I cry every time we drive over Geneva Summit up Montpelier Canyon.  It was hard----really hard, and I cried at the top.  I cried at the top of Salt River Pass too.  It is a hard ride, but a lot of ... ...continue reading

My Comfort Food

May 11, 2010 By: Lisa6 Comments

This is the meal that I associate with home.  My mom made tons of good food.  Every night to be exact.  She is a good mother.  The house was always spotless, and the food was plentiful, and delicious.  I'm going to grow up to be like her one day.  I just keep wondering when that day will come.  I'm sure many of you have had this meal.  At our home it was called Scooble Scauble.  Doesn't that just sound delish!  I'm not sure those two words ... ...continue reading

Potato, Fennel and Leek Gratin

April 10, 2010 By: Lisacomment

Just in case you couldn't tell which part of the meal was the tators!Easter Dinner in all it's glory! Really he still loves me most, but James loved this Potato Fennel and Leek Gratin last week. You know you've got a hit on your hands when hours later he makes the yummy sounds and tells me how good those potatoes were! I made it Sunday for Easter dinner after reading about a similar gratin in a magazine a few weeks ago. As a kid my mom used ... ...continue reading

Should I Call Them Spring or Winter Wraps?

March 31, 2010 By: Lisa6 Comments

They're actually called Vietnamese Salad Rolls, Thai Spring Wraps, or Summer Rolls but maybe I'll just call them Winter Wraps since it seems to be winter around here. I think we've received close to a foot of new snow. What an April Fools. A few weeks ago James and I attended a convention for Great Harvest in Napa Valley. It is a beautiful place even if you don't drink, but a favorite part of the trip was being able to take a cooking class ... ...continue reading

Home Run! (Sister Dearest you must try this!)

February 17, 2010 By: Lisa6 Comments

The other day I was wandering around the cyber world just checking on the comings and goings of all the cousins, and friends when I happened upon this recipe. A friend of mine told me about The Pioneer Woman a few months ago, and I thought, "Oh a cute little Mormon girl who's going to tell about food storage and how to make Jell-o." I don't know where I got the idea that the word Pioneer meant Mormon. I just figured we had the market covered ... ...continue reading

Chinese Pork Roast

February 10, 2010 By: Lisa1 Comment

Part 2 of Sunday's birthday celebration. This fantastic recipe comes from my Granny's "Sister's Favorites" cookbook. I have found over the years that the best cookbooks are those made by people you know and love. I have a handful of these well worn cookbooks that when ever I'm in doubt, they always pull through. I love my sis-in-law Kristy, granny's cookbooks. She makes the best candy, and bread sticks. I love my neighbor Colette's family ... ...continue reading

My Favorite Four Letter Word…RIBS

January 25, 2010 By: Lisa7 Comments

So my children will tell you I have other favorite four letter words, but really I don't. I probably use the other words a little too much, but I made a commitment to try a little harder to clean up my mouth. Let's move on to the "other" favorite four letter word. RIBS! Isn't it a lovely word. It actually makes your mouth water just thinking about it. As a kid I rarely had a rib, let alone a rack. I remember my dad taking me to Tony ... ...continue reading

Chicken Divan….Back To My Mormon Mommy Roots

November 10, 2009 By: Lisa5 Comments

Look at that lovely layered goodness.  There's even corn flakes on top.  Isn't this the cutest bottle of curry.  I bought it because of the packaging.  One for tonight and one for sometime in the future.Oh yes!  It is a casserole to rival any other cream of something casserole.  This one is my all time favorite, and it brings me right back to my Mormon mommy roots.  You know, casseroles, cream of something stuff, and  other large family friendly ... ...continue reading

Dilly Rolls

October 7, 2009 By: Lisa6 Comments

It doesn't matter how long I've cooked or how many different things I try, there are a few things my mom makes that I think are the most amazing recipes in the world.  I have tried many different recipes for some of the items, but I still come back to my dear old mummy's way.  In my opinion there is no better recipe than my mom's for Chocolate Chip cookies, Homemade Spaghetti Sauce with it's touch of cinnamon, Lasagna, gravy, and most importantly ... ...continue reading

Lake Powell

October 1, 2009 By: Lisa7 Comments

We have had many a person ask where our third child got his red hair.  Well if you notice from the pictures of our recent adventures to Lake Powell, #3's hair color resembles the red rocks in those lovely canyons.  Let's just say our last visit to Lake Powell was 10 years ago, and #3 just happens to be 9 years.  You do the math:)We had a wonderful couple of days exploring the canyons of Lake Powell.  It is such a great place, but I will say it's ... ...continue reading
