I loved it when my mom would bake a pie when I was a kid. With the leftover dough she'd cut it into odd little shapes, place it on a cookie sheet, sprinkle it with cinnamon sugar, and bake. It turned into the tastiest little treat! I loved Pie Crusteez!!! I still love Pie Crusteez, and so do my children. Sometimes I think they may even be the best part of pie making. Peaches are in season, and oh are they glorious!! There is nothing like ... ...continue reading
THE Loaf! Fig Walnut and Blue Cheese Peasant Bread
I get asked a lot at the bakery if I cook. More specifically if I bake. "Do I bake!" I reply. I look at whomever is asking me, and tell them that James is worthless in a home kitchen. He doesn't know how to make anything in less than a 180 quart bowl. A 9x13 inch pan would be a math division nightmare for someone who cooks in quantities like James. But being married to a baker really does have its perks. My husband makes awesome cupcakes ... ...continue reading
Blueberry Almond Focaccia
I ripped a recipe out of a Bon Appetite a few months ago as inspiration for this recipe. Does anyone else ever do this? I learned once that when you're reading a magazine you should just rip out the pages you want to save instead of saving the whole magazine. Do you know how many times I've had to control my ripping tendency in a dentist or doctors office. How about the Landrover dealership! That would be totally tacky there:) I have a 3 ... ...continue reading
Raspberry Freezer Jam
I got a text the other day from one of my nieces. She's a great little cook, and I've learned a thing or two from her. We chat frequently about recipes, food, new things, but her question the other day was if I had a fabulous peach jam recipe. My reply was short and sweet. The freezer jam recipe off the back of a box of pectin. Follow it to a T, and you will have perfect jam! This is the box of pectin I use. Don't deviate from the ... ...continue reading
Summer Pasta Salad
This salad is wonderful! Perfect in the summertime when your garden is bursting at the seams. There really are no set ingredients. Use what you have on hand. Color wise I've used sliced olive, or black beans. Red pepper strips or tomatoes. Yellow peppers or corn. The key to this salad is color. The more color, the prettier the salad, and I swear it tastes better too. The salad dressing is my old standby. It appears in my Everything ... ...continue reading
Liege Waffles
Can I just say, we made homemade ice cream for this Sunday dinner and it was delish!I have never had a waffle on the streets of New York, or at a cute little vendor in Belgium, but my fabulous neighbor got me intrigued with these lovely little delights this summer. Every June my neighbor takes a group of local high schoolers on a Fashion Trip to New York. She teaches Fashion Merchandising for the local applied technology college. The trip is ... ...continue reading
Baked Feta with Tomatoes
We've just returned from a glorious family get together with all my brothers at my parents cabin in Bear Lake UT. Awesome is the best word to describe it! We had the entire beach to ourselves for 2 days, and Bear Lake was perfectly calm for us the entire 2 days. A family reunion miracle:) We even had 23 people in the middle of the lake for the "Family Swim" as we like to call it. Everyone jumps into the Blue Raspberry Gatorade colored water, ... ...continue reading
Berry Napoleon
This was Jed's last dessert. (Sorry! Elder Clawson.) The last thing I would fix him for the next 2 years! He'll be serving a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He's headed to Albania, and Kosovo, and Macedonia, and Montenegro! I didn't even know where those countries were 5 months ago. And I swear there was a war there just a few years ago. 1999 isn't just a few, but it seems like yesterday. And do you remember ... ...continue reading
Baked French Toast
I love this stuff! And in all actuality, you can call it breakfast or dessert and you'd be correct on both counts. For breakfast we call it Baked French Toast, but it also can appear as Bread Pudding if you serve it with ice cream:) I've been trying to decide what to serve for Jed's mission farewell in a week, and I think this is the route we're going to go. Brunch. A little bit of breakfast food, and a little bit of lunch food, and lots of ... ...continue reading
Happy Fathers Day
This is such a great video that makes me very aware of an earthly father as well as a Heavenly Father who loves me, and that everything they do is for me. I love my dad, and my husband. They've both been perfect examples of what a father is supposed to be. The example that my son now can look to as he leaves my nest. I love you boys!!! Watch this video. I promise you'll love it! ... ...continue reading
